Your journey starts here. The process to find a therapist can be challenging and intimidating. My goal is to provide information to all new patients so you can be an informed consumer of your care. Read more about me here and please feel free contact me with additional questions about how we might work together.
Therapy is a highly personalized journey that requires vulnerability, bravery, and commitment. Most patients start from a place of “crisis”—there is a challenge, struggle, or problem that continues to present a barrier to your wellness. This may be unhealthy relationship patterns, depression, loss, career dissatisfaction, body image issues, a desire to know yourself better, anything you deem problematic in your life. You may experience shame or embarrassment, criticize yourself for being “weak”, or feel you must heal alone.
I firmly believe in the transformative power of sharing one’s story and working together to heal. There is no judgement in our work together but curiosity and a willingness to learn from you as the expert on your story. I would like to hear your story in your own words, even when it is difficult to find those words. I want to understand your experiences, your history, and your problems as you define them. My hope is that you feel heard, understood, supported, and that we are partners in the process of change.
Where we go from there is much like an epic story. We have a destination in mind—your health, wellbeing, connection to others, purpose and meaning. But, there is no map to get us there. Instead, we must work together to find and forge a path. There is an element of “trusting the process” of therapy that all patients must do. It requires a bit of faith. This can be challenging and leave one feeling lost and vulnerable. My reassurance is this: I have had the privilege to journey with many patients and I know together we can find your path. My commitment is to stay with you, to be responsible for the process of moving towards change, to guide when I can, and to reassure and support. Your goals are too precious to abandon and I believe your health and well-being are just that.
